Financially stressed missing man found safe

A 36-year-old man was found safe in Yuen Long after he went missing for a day, with sources saying he was recently under financial pressure.

This is the second time the man, surnamed Chan, pictured, went missing after he disappeared on Kau Yuk Road in Yuen Long in January last year and was found on Bride's Pool Road in Tai Po the following day.

Chan's wife filed a police report at a Yuen Long police station at 6pm on Saturday, saying she lost contact after he left their apartment at Grandeur Terrace, 88 Tin Shui Road, Tin Shui Wai.

"I could still contact my husband at around 11am [Saturday] morning, but could not get a response from him a few hours later at around 2pm," Chan's wife told officers.

Officers listed the case as missing persons and tracked Chan's phone, which was last spotted on Bride's Pool Road in Tai Po.

Chan's wife was also clueless about the connection between her husband and Bride's Pool Road.

"My husband once took the children to ride bicycles in Tai Mei Tuk," Chan's wife said, referring to the popular barbecue and cycling spot in Tai Po which leads into Bride's Pool.

Police, civil aid services and firefighters were deployed to search for the missing man in the vicinity of Bride's Pool Road overnight and began operations at 11.17am yesterday.

After less than 20 minutes, Chan was found on Shap Pat Heung Road in Yuen Long at 11.35am.

He was found conscious and uninjured but was taken to Pok Oi Hospital for a medical check-up.

Police said there should be no foul play involved in the incident. Chan has two young children with his wife.

"He is suspected to have been troubled by financial problems recently and sought help from friends," sources said.

But sources said he did not discuss the issue with his wife and she did not spot anything unusual before Chan left home on Saturday.

After suspecting Chan to have gone missing, his wife posted information of her husband and his light goods vehicle on social media yesterday morning, calling on citizens to provide information on his whereabouts.

He was driving a Hyundai light goods vehicle on Saturday and was seen in Yuen Long, Tin Shui Wai, Queen's Hill in Fanling and Bride's Pool in Tai Po.
