Search ramps up for future civil servants

The government is looking to hire 50 administrative officers and 220 executive officers, and those interested can take the joint recruitment exams for civil servants, with applications open from tomorrow.

There are also spots for 10 assistant labor officers, four assistant trade officers, seven management services officers and 15 transport officers.

Permanent residents including university students graduating in the next two years can apply to take the joint recruitment examination tentatively slated for December 2. Application deadline is 5pm on October 6.

A common recruitment examination and a Basic Law and National Security Law test have been tentatively set on December 2, and applicants must obtain requisite results for their joint recruitment examination to be processed.

Applicants staying in the mainland and overseas can take the exams in eight cities - Beijing, Shanghai, London, San Francisco, New York, Toronto, Vancouver and Sydney.

They may apply from September 23 to October 6.

At the government's job fair at University of Hong Kong yesterday, Secretary for Civil Service Ingrid Yeung Ho Poi-yan encouraged students to join the civil service.

"Joining the civil service and serving the community is an option well worth considering," Yeung told students. "As different positions in the government have different requirements, students can learn more about the work of different grades in the government and focus on the direction of work that suits their interests."

Twenty-one bureaus and departments participated in the fair.
