Tai Po flat fire prompts evacuation of 140, two hospitalized

About 140 residents were evacuated and two were hospitalized after a flat fire at Tai Po's Serenity Park on Tuesday morning. 

Police received multiple reports at around 7.05 am regarding a fire that broke out at a unit in block six of the estate on Tai Po Tau Road. 

Firefighters arrived at the scene and took approximately 16 minutes to extinguish the blaze. During the incident, approximately 140 residents self-evacuated to safety.

A 32-year-old male resident surnamed Cheung and a 38-year-old female resident surnamed Ho felt discomfort from smoke inhalation and were both transported to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital for treatment 

A preliminary investigation by firefighters suggests an electrical short circuit inside the flat may have caused the fire.

The investigation is ongoing.
