Nearly HK$100 million worth of gold bars were allegedly stolen from a gold shop in a commercial building in Hung Hom on Friday afternoon (Mar 20), with police searching for three suspects.
Police said a woman reported the suspected theft at about 3 pm at a shop in Peninsula Square on Sung On Street. A total of 73 gold bars, each weighing one kilogram, were reported missing.
The haul is estimated to be worth close to HK$100 million.
According to sources, a former business partner of the shop allegedly took the gold bars before leaving in a black car with a man and a woman.
Officers later intercepted a car on North Lantau Highway near the toll plaza toward the airport and searched the vehicle, but released it after determining it was unrelated to the case.
The investigation is ongoing.
