Kicking off on Saturday (Mar 14), the "Breast Care Fun Fair 2026" is taking place at Wo Che Plaza to promote the importance of regular screenings for early detection and effective treatment.
During the event, HKBCF founder Polly Cheung Suk-yee highlighted that breast cancer has been the leading cancer among Hong Kong women since 1994, with cases surging from approximately 1,100 to over 6,000 in 2023.
As lymphoedema is a common post-treatment aftereffect often overlooked by breast cancer patients, Cheung announced the availability of more than 600 slots for free lymphoedema diagnosis and care service.
The initiative includes 80 free slots for newly diagnosed breast cancer patients and those undergoing treatment for no longer than six months.
Additionally, 403 slots have been reserved for low-income women aged 40 or above, providing them with two sessions of free lymphoedema index measurement and related care services.
A total of 160 grassroots women already developed lymphoedema will also benefit from two sessions of guided self-treatment and personalized management plans.
The two-day fair features free health talks covering topics such as breast health and cancer screening, breast cancer treatment, and rehabilitation.
To raise awareness of breast health in the community, registered nurses are on-site providing professional guidance on breast health checkups, along with interactive games, exhibitions, and free pulse oximetry and blood pressure tests.
The foundation further revealed plans to focus on lymphoedema throughout March, organizing a series of activities including self-manual lymphatic drainage and exercise classes and multiple health education talks.
