Six flights were cancelled at Hong Kong International Airport as of 11am on Sunday due to Middle East tensions, according to the Airport Authority Hong Kong.
Another flight scheduled for Monday (Mar 9) has also been cancelled, AAHK added.
The Immigration Department reported that around 800 inquiries have been received from Hong Kong residents currently in the Middle East as of 5pm on Saturday (Mar 7), mainly concerning the latest flight information and travel arrangements.
Notably, over 300 residents have left the area safely, while the rest are in safe locations and remain in contact with authorities.
Following discussions with Emirates airline to secure seats for residents with special needs, seven individuals returned to Hong Kong on a direct UAE flight on Saturday.
The government affirmed that it will continue striving to facilitate these special arrangements for flights in the coming days.
The Red Outbound Travel Alert (OTA) remains in effect for Iran and Israel since its issuance on February 28. The Security Bureau urges the public to avoid non-essential travel amid the rising tensions.
