The 54th Hong Kong Arts Festival (HKAF) has now officially opened. Since the festival’s inception in 1973, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust has been its major supporter – underlining the Club’s commitment to promoting arts and culture and fostering community participation.
The Club has brought world class exhibitions and arts and cultural programmes to local audiences through The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series since 2008. This year’s opening production, La Bella Otero presented by Ballet Nacional de España, is one of the three-pillar programmes under the series. The other two include a concert conducted by British maestro Sir John Eliot Gardiner with his Constellation Choir and Orchestra, as well as Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin performed by National Opera Brno, offering artistic experiences to music lovers.
Other highlights this year include the Jockey Club East-meets-West Series: Aristophanes' Lysistrata and the Jockey Club InnoArts Series: KAGAMI by Ryuichi Sakamoto & Tin Drum. In addition, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Student Matinee Programme is collaborating with schools across the city to enable students to experience world class performances while nurturing their interest in and appreciation for the arts.
The eighth edition of No Limits, co-presented by the HKAF and the Club’s Charities Trust, has also launched with the theme “All of Us, All Ways”. In keeping with its commitment to inclusion, all performances feature accessibility services. This edition also features a series of Jockey Club “No Limits” Education and Community Programmes such as school tours, workshops, public showcases and an international symposium. These initiatives aim to foster greater understanding of people with disabilities as well as creativity and connectivity across communities.
