Customs officers intercepted five live lizards of suspected scheduled endangered species concealed in high-heel boots on a lorry at Shenzhen Bay Control Point on Thursday with an estimated market value of HK$15,000.

Following a risk assessment, officers stopped and searched an incoming lorry.
The lizards were found wrapped in cloth and hidden inside high-heel boots.
The case has been referred to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department for further action.
Under the Protection of Endangered Species of Animals and Plants Ordinance (Cap. 586), unauthorized import, export or possession of endangered species specimens is an offense punishable by a maximum fine of HK$10 million and 10 years’ imprisonment, with items forfeited.
