Police are investigating after another dog carcass was found in Lok Ma Chau on Thursday, marking the fourth suspected poisoning in the area within four days.
Officers received a report at around 6pm of a dog's body found on Liu Pok Road. Preliminary investigations suggest the one-year-old female mongrel may have been poisoned. The case has been classified as "cruelty to animals" and is being handled by the border district criminal investigation team.
The carcass has been handed to the SPCA for autopsy and toxicology tests. Police believe the case is connected to similar incidents on February 16 and 17, when three other dogs were found dead. No arrests have been made so far.
Animal welfare group "Sai Kung Stray Friends Foundation" posted on social media that volunteers have observed at least 13 dogs missing or dead in the area over the past week. Volunteers described distressing scenes, including one dog named "Baby girl" that was found dead in a marsh after being seen vomiting. Two other carcasses were discovered in a nearby pond with suspicious ropes nearby.
The group expressed heartbreak and frustration, stating: "What rotten human/s could do this? It's not a Happy New Year."
