Joining worshippers at Sha Tin's Che Kung Temple, Secretary for Security Chris Tang Ping-keung thanked officers on duty, prayed for the city’s good fortune and chatted with vendors on the second morning of the Lunar New Year.
Tang arrived at the temple around 10.15am, personally distributing snacks to police officers and Civil Aid Service personnel, thanking them for sacrificing time with their families to serve the public during the festive period.
Following tradition, Tang entered the temple to spin the fan-bladed wheel of fortune and beat the drum for good luck in the Year of the Horse.
Before leaving, he had a chat with vendors about their business and purchased a small windmill ornament for HK$88, symbolizing a smooth year ahead.
He described the scene at the temple as lively and orderly amid a small crowd in the morning, adding business at the stalls is going smoothly.
As for his wishes for the New Year, Tang expressed hope for national prosperity and stability, continued safety and peace in Hong Kong, as well as robust economic development.
In a separate report, Tang highlighted a smooth operation across Hong Kong's various control points yesterday, recording approximately 770,000 border crossings.
He stated that additional counters and channels had been opened at various land boundary control points, with the vast majority of travelers completing their procedures within 15 minutes, and sometimes without any waiting.
Regarding the opening of the new Huanggang Port, Tang confirmed that preliminary planning conditions have been met and that discussions with Shenzhen authorities are ongoing.
He stressed the target to expedite progress and disclosed that the opening date will be announced in due course
