Police arrested a married couple after raiding a drug storage unit in a Kwai Chung public housing estate on Tuesday (Jan 27), seizing 16 kilograms of suspected cocaine and 50 grams of suspected cannabis, with an estimated street value of about HK$12 million.
The Special Duties Team from the Kwai Tsing Police District said the 32-year-old man, a cleaner, was stopped outside a public housing unit with a brick of suspected cocaine in an orange bag. Officers later searched the unit and found the 32-year-old woman, a sales assistant, along with 13 bricks of suspected cocaine and six packets of suspected cannabis. Both were arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking.
Police believe the couple were recruited by a drug syndicate to act as warehouse operators and distributors, earning HK$4,000 to HK$5,000 per delivery. Authorities warned that using public housing units for drug storage could lead to tenancy termination and may also implicate other household members.
The case is being handled by the District Crime Squad of Kwai Tsing District.
