A Hong Kong woman was arrested on suspicion of common assault after allegedly hitting a mainland Chinese man with a saucepan lid at Wong Shek Campsite in Sai Kung on Wednesday (Jan 28).
Police said they received a report at 11.16am that a man had been assaulted at the campsite. Officers found a 33-year-old man with an injury to the right side of his face. He did not require hospital treatment. A 44-year-old woman was later arrested.
Police sources said the man, who lives in Hangzhou, was visiting Hong Kong, while the woman was a Hong Kong identity card holder who described herself as a homemaker. The two were not known to each other.
They had reportedly argued at the same campsite on Sunday, when the woman was suspected of damaging the man’s camping equipment and was arrested for criminal damage. They encountered each other again on Tuesday, leading to another dispute, during which the woman allegedly carried out the assault.
Photos circulating online showed police officers wearing helmets and tactical vests at the scene. Some of them also appeared to show the woman holding an axe at one point.
The case has been taken over by the Wong Tai Sin Police District’s Criminal Investigation Team.
