CLP Power Hong Kong celebrated a major milestone as its System Control Centre at Strafford House in Tai Po Kau marked 40 years of operation.
Management, staff, and retirees gathered commemorate the Centre’s four decades of service on Monday, reflecting on its evolution while looking toward the future of grid digitalization.
Since its commissioning in 1985, the Centre has served as the nerve center of power system, operating round the clock to monitor equipment across CLP Power’s supply area.
The power grid has transformed significantly over four decades, evolving from backbone network and main substations into a sophisticated, interconnected system delivering electricity to households and businesses throughout Hong Kong. System control engineers have navigated numerous challenges, including extreme weather events and the COVID-19 pandemic, while maintaining a safe and reliable power supply.
“Hong Kong is at a momentous stage of energy transition and digital transformation,” said CLP Power managing director Joseph Law Ka-chun. “We will continue to introduce innovative technologies to enhance grid flexibility.”
Law said the group has recently implemented an Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) to integrate existing grid monitoring platforms and strengthen data interoperability. The system enables engineering staff to centrally manage data on distribution lines and substations, improving decision-making efficiency and grid management.
