The deceased, surnamed Huang from Guangzhou, was hiking with three classmates at around 10.14am. The group had stopped at a pavilion near the cliff to rest and take photos when Huang apparently lost his balance while trying to capture the scenery and plunged about 70 meters into the sea below.
Huang’s friends immediately called for help. Firefighters and the Marine Police carried out a rescue operation, with the Government Flying Service on standby. Huang was later found by a firefighting boat and brought ashore, but he was already unconscious. He was taken to the Sai Kung Marine Police Base and pronounced dead after medical checks.
Police said Huang suffered severe skull fractures and multiple abrasions. Preliminary investigations suggest the incident was a tragic accident, with no suspicious circumstances.
