Elderly woman dies after being dragged under tour bus in Wan Chai

An 86-year-old woman was killed this morning when she was struck and dragged under a tour bus on Wan Chai Road near the junction with Cross Street.

The accident happened at 10.17am today near the intersection of Wan Chai Road and Cross Street. 

Witnesses said the elderly woman was hit by the coach and became trapped underneath the vehicle. Several bystanders rushed to help and managed to pull her out from under the bus, but she was already unconscious and critically injured.

Paramedics arrived shortly afterwards and took the woman to Ruttonjee Hospital for medical attention, where she was later pronounced dead.

Police are investigating the exact cause of the collision.

As a result of the incident, the Transport Department has closed the entire section of Wan Chai Road between Johnston Road and Cross Street in both directions. 

Tai Wo Street is also fully closed. Motorists are being advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes, with heavy traffic already reported around the scene.
