At least nine Indonesian domestic helpers lost their lives in the fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, while another one sustained injuries, according to the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong (KJRI Hong Kong).
The injured maid was downgraded from critical condition. The KJRI Hong Kong confirmed the whereabouts of 88 Indonesian nationals as of Sunday (Nov 30) night, with 42 others still missing.
The KJRI Hong Kong has implemented multiple measures to assist its citizens, including establishing a temporary shelter at its premises and setting up an aid post in front of the Tai Po Complex.
Consulate staff have also visited evacuation centers and hospitals in the affected area to verify information related to Indonesian citizens, distribute relief supplies such as food and hygiene products, and expedite passport issuance.
Meanwhile, the KJRI Hong Kong has maintained communication with the families of the deceased and will assist in repatriating the victims' bodies to Indonesia.
Efforts are also being made to locate the missing Indonesian citizens, with the Consulate maintaining close contact with the Hong Kong Police Force and other local government departments.
Additionally, the KJRI Hong Kong has urged all Indonesian citizens in Hong Kong to exercise caution in receiving information, to re-verify any details concerning the situation, and to remain vigilant against fraud attempts.
It added that valid information will only be published by the KJRI Hong Kong and local authorities, including the Hong Kong Police Force and the Labour Department.
Separately, the Consulate General of the Philippines in Hong Kong said that one Filipino maid was killed and another injured in the fire.
Officials said 84 citizens have been confirmed safe, while the status of 7 others is still being verified.
