Tai Po District Councillor Lo Hiu-fung proposed to the government that Chung Nga Road be selected as a resettlement site for residents affected by the Wang Fuk Court fire last November.
He made these remarks during the Tai Po District Council’s first meeting of 2026, held on Tuesday (Jan 6), which discussed follow-up arrangements and urged the government to clarify the timeline for allowing residents to return home.

Lo, who also chairs the building management task force in Tai Po, noted that the site on Chung Nga Road has already been leveled and is ready for development, which would help provide housing for affected residents quickly in the short term.
He emphasized that the proposal reflects the strong desire of many residents to return and resettle in Tai Po.
Lo further stressed that many elderly residents have lived in the district for years and rely on local medical services, while young families are concerned about their children’s education.
He added that relocating outside the area would raise serious concerns about the continuity of children’s schooling, including potential transfers or other disruptions.
