Hong Kong will observe three days of mourning following the deadly No. 5 alarm fire at Wong Fuk Court in Tai Po, with flags at all government buildings to be flown at half-staff starting Saturday (Nov 29).
From November 29 to December 1, national and regional flags at all government premises — including Hong Kong’s overseas offices — will be flown at half-staff as a mark of respect for those who died in the fire.
Principal officials will suspend non-essential public engagements, while government-organized or subsidized entertainment and celebratory events will be cancelled or postponed.
Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu will lead principal officials, Executive Council non-official members, and civil servants in a three-minute silence at Central Government Offices at 8am tomorrow.
The Home Affairs Department will set up condolence points across all 18 districts during the mourning period. Members of the public may sign condolence books between 9am and 9pm from November 29 to December 1.
