Special traffic arrangements will be implemented at various locations on Hong Kong Island North, Kowloon East and Tseung Kwan O from 1am on Sunday to facilitate the Hong Kong Streetathon 2025.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Transport Department (TD) noted that runners in the full and half marathon events will start from the Island Eastern Corridor, proceed through the Eastern Harbour Crossing to Kowloon.
The final segment covers the Yau Ma Tei Section of the Central Kowloon Bypass, which spans 4.7 kilometers and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. The finish line will be set at the section's Yau Ma Tei Interchange.
Starting from 1am, the eastbound Island Eastern Corridor between Victoria Park Road and Taikoo Wan Road, the eastbound Central-Wan Chai Bypass Tunnel, and Kowloon-bound tube of the Eastern Harbour Crossing will be closed until 9am.
The authorities anticipate that traffic in many areas across Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories will be significantly more congested than on a typical Sunday.
Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. In case of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise patience, drive with care, and follow the instructions of the Police on-site.
In view of the temporary road closures, 56 bus routes, including 14 KMB routes, 22 Citybus routes, 20 Cross-Harbour Bus routes, and 15 Green Minibus routes, will be affected and subject to diversion, truncation, or relocation of stops in phases until the roads reopen.
During the road closure period, taxi stands, public light bus stands, roadside parking spaces, and private car park accesses on the affected roads will be suspended.
Furthermore, the first departures of all MTR rail lines (except the Airport Express and Disneyland Resort Line) will be advanced on Sunday. The first trains on the Tuen Ma Line and East Rail Line will begin service at 2.50am.
One special bus route will also be operated to serve event participants travelling to Causeway Bay this Sunday.
