The Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) announced Wednesday a substantial double-digit growth in passenger volume, cargo traffic, and flight movements for the last fiscal year, recording a profit of HK$2.457 billion.
According to the annual financial report for the 2024/25 fiscal year, the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) recorded 54.9 million passengers, with cargo volume reaching 5 million tonnes as of March 31, representing a year-on-year increase of about 21.6 percent and 10.3 percent, respectively.
Additionally, flight movements increased by 20.5 percent, totaling around 373,050.
Highlighting the expansion of the airport's air traffic network, 27 airlines launched or increased flight services to 56 destinations during the period. By the end of the 2024/25 fiscal year, approximately 140 airlines were operating at HKIA, connecting to over 200 destinations worldwide.
Benefitting from the increased air traffic and revenue, the authority recorded a profit of HK$2.457 billion and announced a dividend of HK$1.3 billion payable to the government -- the first dividend payment since the 2014/15 fiscal year, when operational surpluses were retained to fund the Three-Runway System (3RS) project.
Chairman of the Airport Authority, Fred Lam Tin-fuk, emphasized that HKIA has achieved several significant milestones over the past year, with air traffic steadily recovering.
Following the launch of the 3RS last November, the airport’s annual passenger and cargo capacity has increased by 50 percent, further solidifying the city’s position as an international aviation hub, Lam added.
