The Yau Ma Tei Section of the Central Kowloon Bypass is expected to be commissioned on December 21, according to sources.
Construction on the section commenced in 2017, with a total length of approximately 4.7 kilometers, including a tunnel section of about 3.9 kilometers.
It will connect the Yau Ma Tei Interchange with the Kai Tak Development Area and alleviate traffic congestion along major roads in Kowloon.
Notably, the journey time from Yau Ma Tei to Kowloon Bay will be reduced from 30 minutes to five minutes.
The Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB) will launch two new bus routes that will run on the Bypass during peak hours upon its commissioning, including one connecting Tuen Mun and Kwun Tong, and another from Tsuen Wan West to Yau Tong.
Citybus will also operate a route linking Lohas Park in Tseung Kwan O with the airport via the Bypass.
Additionally, the Central Kowloon Bypass also includes the Kowloon Bay section, also known as Trunk Road T2 and Cha Kwo Ling Tunnel, which is scheduled to open in mid-next year.
Trunk Road T2 will connect to the existing Tseung Kwan O–Lam Tin Tunnel at its eastern end, completing Hong Kong’s Route 6.
