In response to lawmaker Carmen Kan Wai-mun stating that mainland enterprises have expressed strong interest in leveraging Hong Kong’s professional legal services for investment and risk management, Secretary for Justice Paul Lam Ting-kwok said the DOJ is already in contact with the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau for coordination.
Another lawmaker, Maggie Chan Man-ki, highlighted the significance of building comprehensive one-stop legal services, an initiative ideally led by Deputy Secretary for Justice Horace Cheung Kwok-kwan.
Cheung added that authorities will develop diverse legal services to cater to demand from businesses across various sectors and regions in the mainland.
Separately, the Law Society of Hong Kong urged the government to allocate funds and provide tax incentives to support the city’s wealth and asset management industry.
It further proposed introducing diverse investment products under the Cross-boundary Wealth Management Connect Scheme in the Greater Bay Area to attract high-net-worth individuals from the mainland.
