Ocean Park has altered a controversial display in its Halloween haunted house following criticism for evoking the murder case of Hong Kong socialite Abby Choi Tin-fung.
The issue arose after a media preview last week for the upcoming annual Ocean Park Halloween Bash, featuring the haunted house "The Unsolved Terrors."
The haunted house includes a kitchen where actors lifted a cooking pot to reveal a fake human head, asking the question “Would you like a carrot soup?”
The controversial scene was widely perceived as an insinuation to the case of the slain model–a case that shocked the city in 2023.
Speaking on a radio program Monday(Sep 29), Ocean Park chair Paulo Pong Kin-yee acknowledged the public's concerns, stressing that the park prioritizes citizens’ opinions and has promptly changed the relevant designs.
“Every scenario at the haunted house is entirely fictional, and the park simply wishes to offer a fun and thrilling experience for guests,” Pong stated.
Pong explained that a staff preview scheduled for last Wednesday (Sep 24) was canceled due to Typhoon Ragasa, preventing the internal team from vetting the final designs beforehand.
However, he emphasized that the team has learned a lesson from the incident and expressed hope that the public will give the young creative team more opportunities to grow.
According to the park's website, "The Unsolved Terrors" is one of six haunted houses featured in this year's "Halloween Fest 2025," inviting visitors to "return to the crime scenes of different mystery cases."
