Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu unveiled his fourth policy address, titled "Deepening Reforms for Our People and Leveraging Our Strengths for a Brighter Future." The ambitious blueprint emphasizes accelerating the development of the Northern Metropolis, fostering industrial growth, and advancing artificial intelligence applications to drive economic progress.
A survey conducted by Sing Tao Daily, The Standard's sister publication, revealed public appreciation for the leader's proactive and flexible approach, with many commending his willingness to break down barriers and address community needs.
One of the survey questions inquired about the public's perception of the characteristics and governance style of Lee as reflected in the policy address.
Eighteen percent of respondents praised his proactive leadership and readiness to take responsibility.
About 17 percent of respondents also praised his flexibility in policymaking and focus on practical solutions to public concerns, with 15 percent praising him for his forward-thinking vision for Hong Kong's development.
DAB lawmaker Edward Leung Hei echoed these sentiments, noting that the policy address dedicates substantial attention to long-term economic strategies, which they believe will pave the way for improved livelihoods.
He emphasized that the plan incorporates extensive input from both legislators and members of the public, ensuring alignment with societal demands, though its success hinges on effective implementation and adaptability.
The policy address also introduced measures to streamline bureaucratic processes, particularly for the Northern Metropolis project.
Lawmaker Benson Luk Hon-man of the Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong said the Committee on Development of the Northern Metropolis, led by the chief executive, aims to enhance coordination across government departments.
Initiatives to boost the yacht economy were also highlighted, including simplified procedures for visiting yachts, such as removing the need for prebooked berths when equipped with monitoring devices.
Luk said these steps reflect a broader commitment to reducing red tape and enhancing Hong Kong's appeal as a global hub.
