The High Court on Wednesday mandated the winding up of Hip Hing Loong Stage Engineering Company -- one of the stage engineering contractors involved in the July 2022 Mirror concert accident.
The accident, which involved a falling giant LED display screen, resulted in two dancers being injured, including severe injuries to dancer Mo Li Kai-yin’s neck.
The petition against Hip Hing Loong was initially filed by a mainland-based firm earlier this February, but the petition was withdrawn after the company had settled its debts.
However, the petitioner refiled for liquidation this May, leading to the hearing on Wednesday morning.
High Court Master Jack Wong Kin-tong delivered the ruling as all liquidation documents were ready and no objections were raised.
Last year, Hip Hing Long pleaded guilty to six charges under the Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance, resulting in a fine of HK$420,000.
The company was found responsible for the installation of the concert’s stage, including the metal frame of the LED screen, the suspension system and the maintenance and related operations.
Following the accident, the two dancers took legal action. Li filed a lawsuit seeking compensation from 12 parties, while another injured dancer, Cheung Tsz-fung, filed a personal injury lawsuit in the District Court against Hip Hing Loong and others.
