Hong Kong film enthusiasts will have a rare opportunity this fall to explore the city’s cinematic history through free guided tours of 10 historic buildings, many not regularly open to the public.
The Commissioner for Heritage’s Office of the Development Bureau is organizing the "Heritage Fiesta 2025," which will run from October 1 to November 30.
The event will feature declared monuments and graded historic structures that have served as locations for local film productions.
Among the participating sites are the Tung Wah Coffin Home and the University Hall of the University of Hong Kong, a declared monument that now serves as a student residence.
Both are typically closed to the public, making this a unique chance for access.
The University Hall will also host special open days on October 4 and 5.
Another notable site, the Western District Community Centre, which occupies the main building of the Old Tsan Yuk Maternity Hospital and was recommended for monument status in March, will join the event for the first time.
The historic courtroom of the Former Fanling Magistracy, now The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups Leadership Institute and a frequent movie set, will also be included.
Other notable locations include the Asia Society Hong Kong Center, located at the former Explosives Magazine and part of the Old Victoria Barracks; the Bridges Street Centre of the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong; Hong Kong Adventist College; and Luen Wo Market, also known as the House of Urban and Rural Living.
St. Stephen’s College, the HKFYG Leadership Institute at the Former Fanling Magistracy, and The Hong Kong Jockey Club University of Chicago Academic Complex, which was once the Victoria Road Detention Centre, were also featured in the event.
The Heritage Fiesta will run from October 1 to November 30. Members of the public can join complimentary guided tours at these historic buildings or visit during designated opening hours to appreciate their architectural and cultural significance through a cinematic lens.
A related roving exhibition will also be held at various public locations across Hong Kong from October through December.
Apart from joining arts and cultural events in Hong Kong, visitors can also participate those in Macao. Among them is the must-see Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2025. Themed “Hey, what brings you here?”, this three-month art event features 30 exhibitions across the city, showcasing modern masterpieces by artists from more than 10 countries and regions. Artists, including contemporary masters Xu Bing, Ann Hamilton and Gregor Schneider, craft innovative narratives, revitalize historical spaces and explore the community in six exciting sections.
