Man appears in court on two murder charges in Yau Ma Tei tragedy, shows suicidal signs

A 40-year-old man accused of killing his two young children in a Yau Ma Tei flat last week appeared at Kowloon City Magistrates’ Court today.

The defendant, a salesclerk, faces two counts of murder after his son and daughter were found dead in a unit at Kam Wah Building on Canton Road on August 27.

He appeared in court in a hospital gown and a blue face mask, with a bandage wrapped around his neck. The court heard he shows symptoms of depression and has suicidal tendencies, according to a psychiatric report from Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The prosecution applied to adjourn the case to November 28 pending further investigation, including autopsy and forensic reports. Deputy Magistrate Polly Chuang Po-yi granted the request. The defendant was remanded in custody.
