The man arrested for allegedly skipping out on an HK$80,000 hotel dinner bill has been revealed as a repeat offender who was recently released from prison after serving time for sexual crimes committed under similar online dating pretenses.
The suspect, a 23-year-old surnamed Wong, had previously been convicted in 2023 for using deceptive tactics to meet women online and coerce them into non-consensual sexual acts.
Posing as a fictional acquaintance of his own false persona, he lured two women to hotels where he threatened them into compliance.
Wong was sentenced to two years and nine months in prison for these crimes, which occurred when he was 19 years old and serving as a community outreach officer for a political party in Kwan Po.
He had been released approximately one year before, allegedly repeating similar deceptive behavior—this time impersonating a lawyer to arrange an expensive meal with a new victim.
