Hong Kong Customs arrested two middle-aged men arriving from Bangkok at Hong Kong International Airport on Monday, seizing approximately 24.5 kilograms of suspected cannabis flower valued at HK$5.6 million in two separate drug trafficking cases. The 55-year-old and 51-year-old suspects have each been charged with one count of trafficking dangerous drugs and will appear at West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts on Wednesday.
In the first case, customs officers discovered about 12 kilograms of suspected cannabis flower worth approximately HK$2.7 million concealed within 24 vacuum-sealed packages and one additional plastic bag in the 55-year-old man's checked luggage. The second case involved the 51-year-old man carrying roughly 12.5 kilograms of suspected cannabis flower valued at HK$2.9 million distributed across 25 vacuum-sealed packages and one plastic bag in his checked baggage.
Customs officials emphasized continued vigilance through risk-based profiling, particularly focusing on passengers from high-risk regions. The department warned the public against participating in drug trafficking activities for financial gain and advised against transporting controlled items without verifying their contents.
