Two female diners suffered burns at a Causeway Bay restaurant after a flambé presentation went wrong last night, with one currently in critical condition.
The incident happened at around 7pm at a restaurant located on Paterson Street. Among the injured was a 46-year-old woman with the surname Chan, who was dining with a group of eight. They ordered a Pork Knuckle which is typically presented using the flambé technique.
However, the fire flared up larger than anticipated as the server added cooking wine to the dish, resulting in burns and singed hair to both Chan and her friend's 17-year-old daughter, surnamed Kwan.
Chan sustained burns to her hands, arms, chest, and face, while Kwan suffered burns to her neck and face. They were rushed to Ruttonjee Hospital for treatment, where Chan remains in critical condition.
In response to media inquiries, the restaurant manager stated that the dish is not a newly introduced one and that similar incidents have not occurred in the past.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the authorities.
