After its exit from the Hong Kong market in 2020, iconic fashion chain Esprit is set to reopen in Causeway Bay this November, ready to introduce a fresh wave of trends to its fans.
According to an official statement, the firm set to "rewrite the fashion trend" upon its return, aiming to bring back its classic styles for Hong Kong customers.
With a newly launched Instagram account, Esprit shared a post on Wednesday (Sep 17) featuring the message “See You In Nov,” accompanied by a colorful Esprit logo and the phrase “Rewrite the Classic.”
The brand also tagged an account related to lifestyle and coffee, hinting at a potential integration of coffee elements into its future operations.
In response to media inquiries, the brand confirmed it will open on Fashion Walk on November 1.
Esprit’s legacy with celebrity influence
Founded in 1968 by Douglas Tompkins and Susie Russell, the brand was first introduced in Causeway Bay in 1983 by billionaire Michael Ying Lee-yuen.
The brand quickly gained popularity in the city, partly due to celebrities like his wife and renowned actress, Brigitte Lin Ching-hsia, and singer Leslie Cheung Kwok-wing, who were often seen in Esprit clothing.
Meanwhile, Causeway Bay also holds special significance for the brand as its first branch was designed in collaboration with Japanese designer Shiro Kuramata, which became an iconic landmark in the district.
Notably, the local rap duo, Softhard, honored Esprit's memory with a song that nostalgically recalls the store on Hing Fat Street.
However, the brand faced significant challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, leading Esprit's parent company, Esprit Holdings Limited, to close 56 stores outside China, marking its exit from the local fashion scene.
