Following the city's first Black rainstorm warning signal of the year, which was effective for nearly two hours, an underground Chai Wan car park was flooded with knee-deep rainwater.
Most car owners have already driven to work or relocated their cars, considering the car park at Wan Tsui Estate is prone to flooding. However, a small number of vehicles remained in the parking lot, with some cars having at least one-third of their tire submerged in rainwater around 11 am.
Car park staff implemented emergency measures to address the flooding, including closing the parking lot and utilizing the water pumps.
Due to the presence of electric vehicle charging facilities, the staff also restricted access to ensure safety and notified firefighters for assistance.
One motorcycle owner mentioned receiving a notification from the management office, prompting him to rush to the parking lot to move his vehicle, recognizing improvements in management's response since the flooding incident two years ago.
However, a taxi driver pointed out that although the management had installed flood gates after the last flooding incident, none were lowered this time, and no notifications were received.
Meanwhile, several vehicle owners expressed that they were prepared to relocate their vehicles during bad weather, given the previous flooding incident, with one owner commenting that the results of the management's improvement efforts were not ideal.
Separately, some commuters heading to work found the timing of the issuance of the Black rainstorm warning signal awkward, as they were waiting for their company to announce whether they have to return to the office or work from home.
A resident from Tsuen Wan, who had set off 20 minutes early for work, noted that the rain was light this morning and that he was only notified about the Black rainstorm warning as he arrived at the office.
Additionally, a parent disclosed that they had brought their child to participate in a school activity, only to be informed upon arrival that the program had been canceled, leaving the child disappointed.
