Saint Francis University (SFU) announced on Thursday its plan to absorb Caritas Bianchi College of Careers (CBCC) as an academic unit, pending government approval. If the merger proceeds, students enrolling at CBCC this September will receive graduation certificates issued by SFU.
Under the new arrangement, CBCC’s Design and General Education departments will remain under their own structure.
Its Business & Hospitality Management, Health Sciences, and Social Sciences departments will be transferred to SFU’s corresponding faculties.
SFU assured that CBCC’s 12 existing sub-degree, higher diploma, diploma, and professional diploma programs will continue unchanged, with graduates receiving the same qualifications—now bearing SFU’s name.
The integration plan dates back to 2012, when SFU (then Caritas Institute of Higher Education) secured its Tseung Kwan O campus. CBCC, which offers diploma, associate degree, and higher diploma programs, has long served as a pathway for students to progress to SFU’s degree programs.
Since being renamed Saint Francis University in last January and gaining status as an applied science university in November of the same year, SFU has actively worked to incorporate CBCC, aiming to provide students with more flexible and diverse higher education opportunities.
The move is expected to strengthen academic collaboration and enhance career-oriented learning pathways for young professionals in Hong Kong.
