The traffic at the Tai Lam Tunnel was generally flowing smoothly on Saturday (May 31), TD added. It noted that the Emergency Transport Co-ordination Center will keep a close watch on traffic conditions tomorrow, especially since it will be the first time the time-varying toll prices are in place.
Under the new arrangement, tolls for all vehicle types have been significantly reduced by 22 percent to 80 precent.
For private cars, the tolls during peak, regular, and off-peak time slots from Monday to Saturday will be HK$45, HK$30, and HK$18, respectively. On Sundays and public holidays, there will be a fixed toll of HK$18 all day.
Motorcycles will pay 40 percent of the private car toll, which means their charges will range from HK$7.2 to HK$18.
Taxis will continue to have a fixed fee of HK$28 on all days, while commercial vehicles will be charged HK$43.
