Public transport subsidy threshold raised to $500 starting Jun

The Transport Department reminded commuters that the threshold for monthly public transport expenses eligible for a subsidy will be raised from $400 to $500 starting Sunday (June 1).

The subsidy rate, which is one-third of the actual expenses exceeding the threshold, and the monthly subsidy cap of HK$400 will remain unchanged, the department stated in a release on Monday.

The department noted that commuters can collect the subsidy for the previous month starting from the 16th of each month.

Meanwhile, the subsidy is valid for collection within three months, and the collection methods will also remain unchanged.

The government introduced the Public Transport Fare Subsidy Scheme in 2019 to alleviate the fare burden on commuters and incorporated AlipayHK into the Scheme in January of this year.
