A campaign to promote Hong Kong as an international hub for cultural exchange and intellectual property (IP) trading at the Cannes Film Festival in France has attracted over 800 international producers, directors, artists, distributors and buyers to participate in one of the event's highlights -- Hong Kong Night -- last Saturday (May 17).
“Hong Kong Cinema @ CANNES 2025”-- jointly organized by various government departments -- aims to elevate the presence of Hong Kong’s film productions on the global stage and explore potential partnerships.
The event also featured director Juno Mak and actors Louis Koo and Gao Yuanyuan, the creative powerhouses behind the Hong Kong film Sons of the Neon Night, which had its world premiere at the Midnight Screenings of the festival.
Leading film production companies also participated in the Hong Kong Pavilion at Riviera Cannes, showcasing current and upcoming titles for international sale, including The Last Dance – Extended Version.
A seminar titled “A Better Tomorrow: The Success of Hong Kong & Asian Cinema to the World” was held to feature insights from several Asian film luminaries.
In addition, the campaign included a forum on the theme” Asian Film Collaboration: Navigating Opportunities and Overcoming Challenges in a Global Landscape”, which explored the dynamics of cross-cultural partnerships in Asian cinema.
