Hong Kong members of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) expressed full confidence in the development prospects of both the mainland and Hong Kong, calling on the SAR to assist the nation in taking a further step forward.
They were speaking to reporters in Beijing, as the annual session of the nation’s top political advisory body officially ended on Monday.
CPPCC member and Executive Councillor Eliza Chan Ching-har said she is confident in both future prospects of the country and Hong Kong, citing the positive signals from Beijing officials such as Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang and CPPCC Chairman Wang Huning.
Another member, wholesale and retail sector lawmaker Peter Shiu Ka-fai, said Hong Kong should serve as a gateway between the mainland and the world, bringing good products to Belt and Road markets.
Shiu said he will hold talks in Hong Kong to share the spirit of the Two Sessions with people from all walks of life, so that they understand the country’s development goals.
CPPCC member and lawmaker So Cheung-wing said he had a “strong feeling” at the closing meeting that the country’s economy will become more resilient and release great potential. He urged for reform in Hong Kong to accommodate the country’s needs.
Echoing So’s message, CPPCC member and lawmaker Michael Lee Chun-keung urged the government to increase speed and efficiency, and work as a team with the other cities in the Greater Bay Area to better propel the nation’s overall development.
