Internet shopping knows no bounds, not even for products made behind bars. The Correctional Services Department Sports Association launched an online store Thursday making available handmade crafts made by inmates, with all proceeds to be donated to charities.
The Correctional Services Department has been providing industrial products and services to government departments and government-funded organizations. The public could only purchase handcraft products made by inmates at the booths set up in the annual Autumn Fair organized by the association.
“Made In Prison”, a charitable online gift sales platform, provides the inmates with more job opportunities, thereby cultivating their knowledge of creative design and brand management, said the association.
A diverse range of products is on offer, including lifestyle essentials, Hong Kong-themed products, correctional service-themed accessories, and limited edition holiday items, all crafted by inmates in prisons.
After deducting necessary expenses, all proceeds from sales will be donated to local registered charities to provide opportunities for inmates to give back to society.
During the Lunar New Year period, shoppers can also enjoy free shipping for purchases over HK$200.
