A 66-year-old taxi driver died after an accident occurred in Kowloon Bay on early Friday morning.
Shortly before 5 am today, a motorist passing through Trademart Drive near the Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre (KITEC) found a cab mounted on the pavement after having crashed into the KITEC wall and immediately reported it to the police.
Rescue workers arrived at the scene and found that the male cabby, surnamed Lee, was unconscious in the car. He was sent to the United Christian Hospital for medical attention, but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
It is reported that the deceased had a history of high blood pressure.
At the scene, it is estimated that the cab was driving along Trademart Drive before mounting the pavement and crashing into the main entrance to the KITEC; the wall of the wooden structure is smashed up, and the left side of the cab is stuck against the wall.
Police officers investigated the circumstances and cause of the accident, including examining the road's ground level and the cab's interior.
