Kai Tak Sports Park, slated to open in the first quarter of this year, has been actively preparing with a series of test matches and concerts. As part of these preparations, the Kai Tak Stadium, which can accommodate 50,000 spectators, will host the University Sports Federation of Hong Kong, China’s rugby sevens tournament this Sunday.
This event marks the first test competition at Kai Tak Stadium and sets the stage for the upcoming Hong Kong Sevens in March.
Sports Commissioner George Tsoi Kin-pan announced that the tournament will feature 17 men's and women's teams from the University Sports Federation of Hong Kong, China, with around 10,000 spectators expected to attend.
The matches are set to begin at approximately 11.15 am, with the final match anticipated to start at 5.50 pm and conclude by 6.30 pm. Tsoi noted that tickets have already been distributed, and there will be no ticket sales at the venue. Attendees can enter through gate F.
Tsoi also mentioned that both sports and non-sports test events are planned to continue, including a concert scheduled for the 18th of next month. Additionally, drills and stress tests involving over 10,000 people are set for the end of this month and early February to ensure a smooth opening of the sports park.
Furthermore, Tsoi stated that spectators could enter the venue as early as 10 am. However, items such as long umbrellas, food, drinks, and water bottles are not permitted inside. Water dispensers and cups will be available on-site to meet hydration needs.
Following the Kai Tak Youth Sports Ground and Kai Tak Arena, the Kai Tak Stadium will also host test matches. The final day of the 2024-25 USFHK Rugby Competition, scheduled for the 5th of this month, will take place at the Kai Tak Main Stadium.
Previously held at King's Park Sports Ground, this year's rugby tournament will see teams from multiple tertiary institutions competing at the new Kai Tak Stadium, with an expected attendance of about 10,000 people.
