The worker, surnamed Leung, was fatally crushed by a component of a glass curtain wall, leading to severe injuries from which he later died.
It is reported that Leung was assisting in relocating the glass curtain wall when the webbing sling securing the glass components unexpectedly snapped. This caused the component to tilt and fall, crushing him in the process.
The incident, which took place around 4 pm yesterday (Dec 28), saw Leung being immediately attended to by other workers who called the police.
Rescue workers arrived at the scene, and Leung was transported unconscious to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The police and the Labour Department are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. An autopsy is pending to determine the exact cause of death, and the case has been classified as an industrial accident.
In response to this incident, the Association for the Rights of Industrial Accident Victims has called for a thorough investigation by the Labour Department. They demand that the findings be made public and that legal action be taken against those found in violation of safety regulations.
The association has also urged contractors, subcontractors, and employers to support the aftermath of the accident and assist the deceased worker's family during this challenging time.
The association expressed deep sorrow over the accident and committed to providing the best possible support to the family of the deceased.
