Paris Paralympics delegation chief John Leung Lai-yin stated on a radio program on Thursday that the athletes participating in the 2024 Paralympics are in great condition and hopes for similar results to the previous Paralympics.
This came as the Paris Paralympics are about to open, with Hong Kong sending out 23 athletes to participate in eight events.
The delegation leader stated during a radio program that he hopes that the results are similar to the previous year, adding that Hong Kong has events that they are traditionally good at, such as swimming, badminton, boccia, wheelchair fencing, etc.
Leung stated that in the Tokyo Paralympics, Hong Kong was able to nab two silvers and three bronzes and is also currently ranking number one in Boccia, along with Chu Man-kai, who ranks number one in para-badminton, which encourages big hopes for podium finishes.
However, he pointed out that other countries are also seeing rapid development, with plenty of competition, but he added that the athletes were in good physical and mental condition when they arrived in Paris and hopes they can showcase their skills and achieve good results.
The chief hopes for citizens' support, as it would make the athletes very happy if they did so.
Leung also pointed out that while the day temperature was very hot, it tends to drop severely to around 10 degrees at night, with a huge temperature discrepancy, but there were enough facilities prepared in the Olympic Village.
He stated the main facilities, such as the living environment, food, and accessible facilities, were also adequate.
