The Hong Kong Palace Museum on Friday announced it will raise adult general admission prices from HK$60 to HK$70 starting August 15. Concession tickets will also go up from HK$30 to HK$35.
The museum said earlier that an admission price hike will help improve its financial sustainability amid financial challenges faced by the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority - its managing body.
The price hike next month will only see the prices for adult and concession tickets adjusted, with admission prices for special exhibitions remaining unchanged. The prices for joining the HKPM Friends memberships - which gives holders unlimited free admission to all thematic exhibitions in Galleries 1 to 7 year-round - will also remain unchanged.
The museum said the move has taken into account the museum's sustainability and the financial capacity of citizens and tourists.
The museum will continue to seek sponsorships and allocate tickets to be distributed to vulnerable communities, it said, adding it will reach out to businesses and social welfare organizations to arrange visits for vulnerable groups and students.
