A vintage Leyland Olympian bus returned to Sha Tin on Sunday after being restored, attracting many bus fanatics to the area to showcase their support.
Citybus has been dedicated to restoring vintage buses so that locals and tourists can gain an in-depth look into the transformation of local public transportation.
The classic Leyland bus, active in the 1990s, was displayed at City One Shatin after its renewal in one and a half months.
Richard Hall, managing director of Citybus, said he hopes that Citybus and the government can find a compromise to allow citizens and tourists to ride on the vintage bus so they can experience life in Hong Kong's past.
He claimed that Hong Kong has a unique double-decker bus culture, and in many countries and regions, displaying vintage buses is an excellent way to attract tourists.
Hall aimed to use the vintage buses to promote Hong Kong's transport culture to tourists and allow them to learn about local transport and social development, while also enabling citizens to experience vintage transport and learn about the differences in buses over time.
A bus fanatic surnamed Wong, who had never ridden the vintage bus before, was excited to see the original.
He believed the bus was a precious memory for older citizens while also providing valuable insight into Hong Kong's development for younger citizens.
Some children expressed excitement at the vintage bus and hoped to take a ride if it ever hit the roads again.
