The Observatory has issued the Amber Rainstorm Warning Signal at 4 pm, after the Red alert was hoisted for just 70 minutes.
The weather watchdog said the area of thundery showers is moving eastward and gradually weakening, with the rain expected to exceed 30 millimeters an hour and is likely to continue.
It warned that there could be flooding in some low-lying and poorly drained areas, while the heavy downpour may also bring about flash floods.
The Red Rainstorm Warning was issued at 2.50 pm on Tuesday.
The Observatory said the trough of low pressure is now affecting the northern part of the South China Sea, and the coast of Guangdong will weaken slightly tomorrow, but there will still be a few showers over the region.
The weather remains unsettled over the coast of southern China for the following couple of days under the influence of upper-air disturbances. Over the weekend, the upper-air disturbances will depart bringing brighter intervals with a few showers over the coast of Guangdong.
