Cocaine bricks continue to wash ashore in Hong Kong

Police officers were called to a Hong Kong beach Tuesday morning after a plastic container storing suspected cocaine bricks was washed ashore for a second time in six days.

Officers last Thursday seized HK$19 million in cocaine that washed up on Chung Hom Kok Beach in Stanley. It is understood that a beachgoer filed a report with the police after finding ten packages near the shore and another five floating near a shark prevention net. Officers eventually discovered 19 packages at the beach.

Tuesday’s discovery came at around 10 am after a swimmer found a green plastic container on Lido Beach in Ting Kau and decided to file a report to the police about his find.

Officers responded to the scene after the report and found eight tightly wrapped packages inside the container, one of which had white powder leaking out.

The beach was cordoned off after the discovery for officers to make further searches, yet no more suspected drugs were found.

Police said they were still investigating whether the recent discoveries were connected. The force’s Narcotics Bureau is now handling the case.
