The 32-year-old owner of a car which knocked down a 66-year-old woman and rammed into four other vehicles in Sham Shui Po on Thursday night has been arrested, while the driver is still at large.
The incident occurred around 7.28 pm when Kowloon West police were on patrol and approached the white private car on suspicion of illegal parking on Castle Peak Road in Cheung Sha Wan.
The car immediately sped up, hitting two vehicles and the 66-year-old woman surnamed Lau on the sidewalk. Instead of pulling over, it turned into Un Chau Street where it further rammed into a taxi and a fourth car near Yen Chow Street and Kiu Kiang Street respectively.
The driver, aged about 20 to 30, then abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. It is understood that he has short hair and was wearing white clothes.
Police soon arrived and found about 30g of crack cocaine and 20g of “ice” worth about HK$52,000 in the car. Police also found that the driver didn’t possess a valid driving license.
After further investigation, police arrested the 32-year-old car owner surnamed Poon for trafficking in dangerous drugs in Sheung Shui. He is currently remanded in custody while police are still hunting down the driver involved.
Lau sustained an injury to her head and was sent to Princess Margaret Hospital in an unconscious state. She is still in critical condition.
As for the 54-year-old driver surnamed Chong whose car got hit on Un Chau Street near Kiu Kiang Street, he sustained injuries to his ears and hands and was sent to Caritas Medical Centre.
