John Lee to personally explain Article 23 to foreign ambassadors and chambers of commerce

Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu announced on Tuesday that he will personally host an explanatory session this afternoon to explain the legislative content of Article 23 of the Basic Law and answer questions from foreign ambassadors and major representatives.

Lee said that the public consultation on Article 23 has been launched for a week, and the authorities have held multiple explanation sessions to explain to two legal professional groups, the financial industry, the press, care teams, district councilors, etc.

Before attending the Executive Council, the Hong Kong leader stressed that Article 23 can ensure the safety and stability of Hong Kong's business and investment environment, continuing to make Hong Kong an attractive and competitive international city.

He said that many chambers of commerce in Hong Kong and other organizations from different sectors support passing the legislation of Article 23 as soon as possible.

Some even pointed out that a rigorous and reasonable legal basis is the winning way to stabilize Hong Kong's social and business environment, along with protecting the rights and interests of enterprises, he added.

He emphasized that they will continue to work hard to explain and complete the legislation as soon as possible.
