Although the flowers were not yet in full bloom, some citizens were seen Thursday to try to take advantage of the perfect photo opportunity.
Yip and her husband said they traveled from Tuen Mun to visit the garden after social media posts claiming that 70 percent of the Sakura trees were already in bloom. However, they could not hold back their disappointment upon arrival as only some had bloomed, and some construction works were still ongoing.
They recalled visiting the garden last February when the cherry blossoms were in full bloom and even spotted lovebirds, creating a lively atmosphere requiring visitors to queue up.
The couple decided to wait until the full blossom before considering a return visit.
Workers at the site stated that the area is still under maintenance and is expected to open next week.
The cherry blossom trees usually bloom from February at the earliest to May at the latest, filling the air with a rich scent and are a visual feast for the eyes.
The Airport Authority has been implementing the landscape enhancement project, which involves planting ten cherry blossom trees along Chek Lap Kok South Road, creating a cherry blossom pathway.
The project was later extended to the other side of the road, where an additional 80 cherry blossom trees were planted, forming the cherry blossom garden.
