CLP to launch HK$200 million programs to support underprivileged and promote energy conservation

CLP Power will provide up to HK$1,000 in electricity subsidies to support about 70,000 grassroots households and give out HK$100 retail and catering coupons to around 580,000 customers.

These are part of its more than HK$200 million programs to support underprivileged people, promote renewable energy development, encourage the community to save energy, and reduce carbon emissions in 2024.

CLP will provide electricity charges relief of HK$1,000 to 20,000 tenants of subdivided unit, as well as HK$600 electricity subsidies to 50,000 single elderly people and elderly couples aged 65 or above, low-income families, and people with disabilities.

Coupons with a total value of HK$100 will also be distributed to each of around 580,000 customers - including residential customers with low levels of electricity consumption and elderly people who qualify for concessionary tariffs - to use in about 1,000 retail and catering outlets.

The electricity giant will spare HK$9.5 million to arrange for qualified electricians to inspect and repair the electrical installations of around 2,000 low-income households and ethnic minorities for free and improve their home safety.

Funding of HK$8 million will be allocated to conduct rewiring works for installing individual electricity meters to improve the home safety of families living in subdivided flats, as well as HK$2,000 each for 2,000 households living in transitional housing for purchasing energy-efficient electrical appliances. 

In addition, HK$3 million will be utilized to support the pilot program on Community Living Room with energy-efficient electrical appliances and education resources. 

CLP Power will also allocate around HK$20 million to purchase and install solar energy systems in eligible schools and non-governmental organizations. It will also continue to run the E-learning Assistance Programme to provide 1,600 students from underprivileged families with e-learning devices. 

It will subsidize commercial and industrial customers, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises, to install or replace more energy-efficient lighting and air conditioning systems to improve their energy efficiency and reduce operating costs.
